15 June – Kutaisi
We met early in the morning in Tbilisi or after dinner in Kutaisi
16 June – Martvili and Okatse Canyons
Okatse is a breathtaking canyon with enormous energy and power. You have a 2,500-meter walk along a paved street ahead of you, and coming down 544 steps. It is a real challenge to test your physical and spiritual strength :)
Then you will have Martvili Canyon, or “Georgia-style Jurassic Park” ahead of you – it’s where dinosaur footprints have been dug out by paleontologists.
17 June – Katskhi and Chiatura
We pack our things and move to Borjomi. On our way we will visit the city of Chiatura and Katskhi Pillar. Katskhi Pillar is a small monastery complex with a chapel at the top of a 40-meter rocky formation.
Chiatura is a real ghost city. A miners’ city where there are dozens of operable and broken funiculars made in 1950s.
18 and 19 June – horseback riding expedition in the Borjomi-Kharagauli Park
Early in the morning we will start off on a real horseback riding expedition in the Kharagauli National Park. Its area is 5000 sq. kilometers, and it means almost 7.6% of Georgia’s territory! We will stay at cabins at the territory of the Park. It is so calm and peaceful here that you can almost hear silence vibrating in the mountains.
19 June – Returning to Borjomi
20 June – Free day
It is time to have a rest after the expedition, catch up on sleep, get a massage, take a hot bath and drink real Borjomi. It’s not for nothing that in the center of the city there is a well where water so famous all over former Soviet Union springs right from beneath the ground!
21 June – Vardzia, Akhaltsikhe
Today we will set off to the city of Akhaltsikhe, we will see a mighty and unyielding Rabati fortress – a true symbol of Georgia. Several times the fortress was destroyed, but it was always built anew, keeping memories of the ancestors.
After dinner we will set off to Vardzia Monastery and fortress – the pride of Georgia. George III, legendary Queen Tamar’ s father, began to build the Vardzia fortified monastery in a vertical tuff cliff to protect fertile Georgian lands from the raids of the Turks and Persians.
22 June – A trip to highland Lake Tabatskuri
After morning practice and breakfast we take food for the picnic, get into our jeeps and drive through Bakuriani and a most beautiful mountain pass – to the heavenly beautiful highland lake.
